The Collection Database is a searchable database of objects from the permanent collection of the Valentine. An individual object record includes information and images, when available.
The Museum's staff have selected several objects of note within the Collection Database as highlights of the collection and the Database will continue to be a work in progress. Objects and their images are being added regularly from a variety of collections and object types.
Due to the large number of objects in the Valentine's permanent collection, less than 15 % of the Valentine’s collection is currently viewable online. However, updates will occur, so be sure to check back from time to time.
Furthermore, information contained in the record is, in some cases, incomplete, and all information is subject to change according to ongoing research.
To perform a basic search, simply enter a keyword in the blank field above.
If you are interested in viewing the Valentine Richmond History Center's painting collection, type in the word painting. Similarly, you can search for a variety of other objects from our cased images, furniture, glass, and ephemera collections. Searches are not case-sensitive.
To refine your search, choose the Advance Search option. With an Advanced Search you can enter more than one keyword, or select terms from a list generated by the database.
For information about objects not available via our online collections database, visit "Research" on our Home page.
We have recently released over 500 ambrotype, tintype and daguerreotype records from the Cased Image Collection. These items are searchable by using the terms ambrotype, tintype or daguerreotype in either basic search or under the "Object Type" field in advanced search.
